Dublin, like any modern Capital City has its share of poverty and
disadvantage. Crosscare is the umbrella agency under which the various
Diocesan projects to alleviate social disadvantage and its effects are
operated. From its HQ based in the grounds of Clonliffe College,
Crosscare is the starting point for all kinds of initiatives and
projects reaching out to the poor and marginalised.

Crosscare initiated the Drugs Awareness Programme (DAP) in 1984. The
team's main focus is prevention rather than treatment of drug misuse.
The Programme's chosen method is to train and facilitate people with
leadership skills to develop drugs-related initiatives in their own
areas, e.g. needs assessment, support groups, peer education, school
programmes and service development. The DAP also acts as the central
liaison for the Irish Bishops' Drugs Prevention Network with contacts in
each diocese throughout Ireland.

The Pioneer Total Abstinence Association provides its members with a
concrete opportunity of living the faith in a most positive manner in a
world where alcohol and drug abuse is a major problem world-wide. The
impact of such abuse in our society is very clear and manifests itself
in three ways: upon the individual, the family and society in general.

The Society of St. Vincent
de Paul is a Christian voluntary organisation, working with poor and
disadvantaged people. Inspired by our principal founder, Frederic Ozanam,
and our patron, St. Vincent de Paul, we seek to respond to the call
every Christian receives to bring the love of Christ to those in need:
"I was hungry and you gave me food" (Matthew 25).
No work of charity is
foreign to the Society.
